CONTINUE THE FANTASY AT
SOFTBALL WINTER CAMP XI

If you liked playing softball this year, you’ll really love Active Lifestyles Softball Winter Camp in Altamonte Springs, Florida, ten miles north of Orlando.  Your field of dreams is the Seminole Sports Complex, site of many world-class softball tournaments, including the Senior Softball World Series.

You’ll experience action-packed days of exciting play on the field and fun-filled nights of camaraderie and congeniality as the event begins with your arrival and get-acquainted/reunion reception on Wednesday evening January 30, 2002.  The competition kicks off Thursday morning, January 31, and continues through Sunday, February 3rd.

As a camper, you’ll be assigned to a team, provided with a team shirt and cap and asked to play your favorite fielding position as you compete with players assembled from all over the country.  In addition to the daily competition of other camp teams, on Saturday, February 2nd, your team will face the challenge of visiting Florida-based Senior Softball teams and you will feel an additional adrenalin kick.

Winter campers from the past whom you may remember or know from around the country include Tony Ciavatta, Don Slocum, Frank Kardashian, Bob Kruse (NJ), Kelley Boyer, John Luegering (OH), Elliot Sylvan (NY), Ferrell Sparks, Mike Pritchard, Curtis Caldwell (GA), Bill Tait (MD), Harve Kost, Bob Wallace (Wisc), Bob Casey (RI), Lou Grell (PA), Jerry Feldman (MA), Mickey Kelley (FL), Jack Hatter (KY).

Camp X was highlighted by Rich Nadler and his band of Red Raiders attempting to repeat their emotional well-deserved camp championship win of 1998 as did the year 1999 champion Blue Jerseys of Alex Strashinsky and Fank Giglinto.  The Golden Gladiators led by Carmine Balletta and Fred Storchs, runner-ups the past two years, won the 2001 Camp championship in an extra-inning thriller.  Oscar Burgos caught the final out at the base of the right-field fence with the tying and winning runs on base to complete a remarkable display of defense by both finals team.

This year’s Awards Banquet saw a gracious transfer of championship glory by the 2000 champions, the Purple Pride who would have been in the Championship final had they not had to go to a total runs scored tiebreaker with the Burnt Orange Crush team.

We are hoping the 2002 camp will reunite the four previous “Spirit of Senior Softball” honorees.  They will share in the selection of the next member of this unique group.
