(Or 'The Great Escape')

Extra Innings ( NJSSA)

Spring 1993

"It doesn't get any better than this." This phrase, heard many times, sums up the reaction of those of us able to participate in the 1993 Winter Camp II event.
Beginning with out Get Acquainted party the evening of Jan. 27th to the Awards Cocktails / Dinner Banquet and Super Bowl Party Jan 31st, the excitement and activity was non-stop.

Each day began with stretching exercises led by our specially recruited aerobics instructor who reminded us, "No Pain - No Gain."
Each team member received a personalized equipment bag and T-shirt, a WC II Cap and a set of Camp Instructions explaining how the "Boy's of Summer" Winter Camp Softball program worked. The camp emphasis is similar to Baseball's spring training preparation with Teams being assigned players and the players wearing the color-coded team T-shirts and Caps. Friendly competition and team parity thru player trading among the teams is the theme of the four day, ten game program.
The weather this year was absolutely perfect. Shining sun in a blue sky with white clouds, temperatures in the 70's and cool Florida nites kept all of us smiling (particularly with -20 degree wind chill reports coming from home.)
A golf and tennis program was available each afternoon after the softball games, and many of

The Camp attendees, included players from North / South Jersey, New York City, Long Island and a visiting All-Star Central Florida team. Rich Palmer, working with members of the Baseball City staff, a video production company to provide each player with a personal take home video, and a local Prlando Niteclub acted as our host and organizer supreme. Al Schneider, alon with help from Mike Christy, So. Jersey and Tony Ciavatta, No. Jersey coordinators made sure that Camp information prior to trip departure was properly distributed to, and collected from the Campers.

us were quite content to return to the hotel's outdoor hot tub and share sports war stories, trivia and plans for the evening's activities.
